英语中，在词和词、短语和短语、句子和句子之间起连接作用的词叫连词。

连词 and

意为“和, 并且; 然后; 那么”, 表示并列关系、顺承关系或条件和结果的关系。

The girl has a small nose and  two big eyes.

这个女孩长着一个小鼻子和两只大眼睛。

My mother is a nurse and my father is a teacher. 

我母亲是位护士，我父亲是位老师。

She takes her schoolbag and goes to school. 

她拿上书包就上学去了。

Work hard and you’ll get good grades.

努力学习，你就会取得好成绩。

连词 but

意为“但是”, 表示转折关系, 连接意义相反或相对的词或句子。

The house is small but nice.

这个房子很小但是很漂亮。

The car is very old, but it runs very fast.

这辆小汽车很旧了，但是它跑得很快。

连词 because

意为“因为”, 引导原因状语从句, 表示原因。

because 引导的原因状语从句可用来回答 why 开头的疑问句。

—Why do you want to go there? 你为什么想去那里?

—Because it’s an interesting place. 因为那是个有趣的地方。

because引导的原因状语从句可在主句前也可在主句后，在主句前时，要用逗号与主句隔开。

Because this is our first lesson, I don’t know your names.

= I don’t know your names because this is our first lesson.

因为这是我们的第一节课, 所以我不知道你们的名字。
