absent 为形容词，意为”缺席的；不在场的”,常与介词from连用。

e.g.:They were absent from work that day.

absence 名词，意为“缺席，不在”。

e.g.:The decision was made in my absence.

fail 此处用作及物动词，意为“未能通过”；也可用作不及物动词，因此fail an examination（考试不及格）也可表示为fail in an examination。

e.g.:Bob always fails (in) his examinations.

fail 也可跟动词不定式，fail to do sth.意为“未能/没能做某事”。

e.g.:I failed to pass the driving test.

3.They take pride in everything good that I do.我做的每一件好事他们都引以为豪。

take pride in意为“为……感到自豪”，in为介词，其后可接名词、代词或动词-ing形式。相当于be proud of。

e.g.:The young mother took pride in her son.=The young mother was proud of her son.
