2. Answer the following questions.

It was so boring because no one scored at all.

(2) What did Tony play yesterday?

He played tennis yesterday.

(3) Why did Tony like watching the Olympics on TV?

Because it was cheaper than buying tickets for all the games.

Language points

1. What’s the score?  比分是多少?

score此处用作可数名词,意为“(比赛中)得分,比分,(测验的)成绩”。

e.g. The score is 2 to 1. 

【拓展】score 还可用作动词,意为“(体育比赛中)得(分)”。

e.g. Our school football team didn’t score.  

2. Last week the match on TV was so boring because no one scored at all. 上周电视上的比赛很枯燥,因为根本没有人进球。

(1) boring是形容词,意为“烦人的;无聊的”。boring常用来修饰物,指事物本身无聊。

e.g. That was a boring film. 

【拓展】

bored 形容词,意为“感觉厌烦的,厌倦的”,通常指人的感受。

e.g. I’m bored with his story.  

(2) (not) at all 意为“一点儿也(不),根本(不)”。

e.g. She doesn’t like it at all.  

【拓展】

not at all 意为“别客气”,常用于回答对方的感谢。

e.g. —Thank you very much. 

—Not at all. 

3. So this week’s match is already more exciting. 所以这周的比赛已经令人兴奋多了。

(1) already是副词,意为“已经;早已”。

e.g. We are already late.

(2) 辨析:exciting 与excited

e.g. Everyone was excited when they heard the exciting news.

4. And I hurt my knee. 而且我伤到了膝盖。

hurt此处用作及物动词,意为“(使)疼痛;(使)受伤”。

e.g. The little boy fell off the tree and hurt himself seriously.

【拓展】hurt 还可用作不及物动词,意为“感到疼痛”。

e.g. Does your right leg still hurt badly?

5. Oh, he missed! 哦,他未射中!

miss此处用作不及物动词,意为“未击中;未达到”。

e.g. He fired, but missed. 

【拓展】miss 作及物动词,还可意为“思念,怀念”。

e.g. I miss my old classmates very much. 

6. Never mind. 没关系。

(1) never mind 意为“不要紧;没关系;别担心”,用于安慰、鼓励对方。

e.g. —We missed the train.

—Never mind. There’s another one in 20 minutes.

(2) mind作动词时,意为“介意;讨厌;反对”,后面可接名词、代词或动词-ing形式作宾语,多用于疑问句或否定句。

e.g. Do you mind opening the window?
